DAM POOL
A Compact Runs Water Perfect for Carp Enthusiasts
Dam Pool is one of Baden Hall Fishery’s most intimate and rewarding waters, offering exciting opportunities for anglers targeting carp. Recent changes have enhanced its appeal, with the removal of many silver fish and bream, leaving a predominately carp-stocked lake. With fish now reaching over 30lb+, Dam Pool has become a prime destination for those seeking consistent action and the chance of a personal best.
Lake Specifications: A Dual-Zone Paradise
- Size: Dam Pool spans 3.5 acres, measuring over 300 yards long and averaging 75 yards across. The lake is divided by a bridge, effectively creating two distinct sections: the Lower Dam and the Upper Dam.
- Bottom Features: A clay bottom provides a solid base for bait presentation, with areas of marginal shelves and overhanging trees creating excellent features to target.
- Depth: With depths reaching a maximum of 10 feet and an average of 7 feet, Dam Pool offers a range of options for anglers. The Lower Dam is the deeper of the two sections, ideal for targeting fish during colder months or in unsettled weather.
Banks & Pegs: Comfort and Accessibility
Dam Pool features 23 well-maintained pegs, each designed with angler comfort in mind:
- Bark-chipped staging areas offer solid footing for bivvies and setups.
- Spacious grass banks provide additional space for organizing gear.
The lake’s layout encourages quiet, low-impact angling, with many fish cruising close to the margins. Keeping disturbance to a minimum can significantly increase your catch rate, particularly when fishing the marginal shelves or under overhanging trees.

Stock Overview:
Dam Pool is now firmly established as a carp-focused water, with its stock predominantly made up of hard-fighting fish:
- Size Range: Carp from low doubles up to an impressive 30lb+.
- Behavior: The carp frequently patrol the margins, offering excellent opportunities for stealthy, close-range angling.
With its manageable size and high stock density, Dam Pool is a fantastic choice for both seasoned anglers and those seeking a confidence-boosting session.
Tips & Tactics: Precision and Patience
Key Areas to Target:
- Marginal Features: The margins are highly productive, with carp often feeding just off the shelf or under overhanging trees. Staying quiet and minimizing movement around your peg is crucial for success.
- Lower Dam: The deeper section often produces fish during cooler periods or when the pressure is high.
- Upper Dam: Shallower but equally rewarding, this section often sees fish following warm winds or feeding close to the surface in warmer weather.
Presentation Matters:
- Opt for rigs that perform well in clear-bottomed areas or around marginal features.
- When targeting fish close in, a stealthy approach and precise baiting are essential.
Recommended Baits: Proven Winners
Carp Favorites:
- Mainline Cell and Essential Cell are reliable choices.
- Sticky Baits Krill and Manilla consistently deliver results.
- DNA Bug and Secret 7 are newer baits and proving to be excellent choices..
Surface Fishing:
- Floaters are particularly effective in warmer weather when the carp are cruising higher in the water.
Rig Recommendations: Adapt to Conditions
